Nanning, capital of the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, announced on Wednesday new plans to adjust the rate for flexible parking lots on roadsides. At a public hearing held on June 21, the city's development and reform commission introduced the tentative plan to 53 representatives of local communities, which consisted of extending free parking hours, reducing standard rates and setting ceiling prices, according to CCTV News.

Last month Voice of China reported on public complaints over the high price of parking in Nanning, which could amount to more than 100 yuan ($13.9) a day. Most the flexible roadside parking lots in Nanning, more than 30,000 spaces in total, are operated by Huibo Co, a State-owned enterprise under the Nanning Bus Group.

One woman was charged a whopping 90 yuan for parking overnight along a street outside the busy commercial area.

According to news portal The Paper, more than 2.5 million automobiles are registered in Nanning, and the city has only 60,000 parking spots along its roads, an insufficient amount to fill public needs.
