Lionel Ming-Shuan NI

Professor Lionel Ming-Shuan NI is the founding president of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou). He earned his PhD in Electrical Engineering in 1980 from Purdue University, United States, and has held key academic leadership positions, including chief vice president of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Vice Rector (Academic Affairs) of the University of Macao.

As a life fellow of IEEE and an academician of the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences, Professor Ni's research focuses on high-performance computing and the internet of things. Over 52,000 citations on Google Scholar evidence his prolific academic contributions, and he has supervised nearly 80 doctoral graduates.

Professor Ni has been deeply engaged in the academic development of the Chinese Mainland, having received prestigious awards from the Ministry of Education, including the National Natural Science Award (Second Class) and the Natural Science Award (First Class). He has served as chief scientist for the National 973 Program's Wireless Sensor Networks Project, a member of the National Natural Science Foundation of China's expert panel, and as a visiting professor at Tsinghua University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He has also contributed to the academic guidance of several national key laboratories.
