Forum highlights 'her power' of female scientists

On the sidelines of the Greater Bay Area Science Forum 2025, a sub-forum on the role of female scientists was held in Nansha district of Guangzhou in South China's Guangdong province on Dec 7.

Jointly hosted by the Guangdong Women's Federation and the Women's Work Committee of the Jiusan Society Central Committee, the sub-forum brought together nine distinguished female scientists from across China to engage in dialogue and showcase their significant contributions to human health, medical breakthroughs, and life sciences innovation.

The event aimed to inspire female scientists to contribute their wisdom and strength to the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and support national strategies.

During the keynote speeches, three distinguished female scientists shared their academic achievements.

Professor Guo Jiao, director of the Metabolic Disease Research Center at Guangdong Pharmaceutical University, presented her research in the field of metabolic diseases.

Professor Wang Lin from Huazhong University of Science and Technology discussed a superior new biomaterial derived from silk waste and stressed the importance of recognizing women's contributions to science.

Professor Zhang Dongmei, dean of the School of Pharmacy at Jinan University, highlighted her team's recent accomplishments in innovative drug research, encouraging more women to join China's drug development efforts.

During the roundtable session, the scientists shared their insights on pathology research, drug development, intelligent diagnostics, and talent cultivation, demonstrating their unique "her wisdom" and "her power".

Lin Qiaojin, an assistant professor from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou), shared her journey, calling on female researchers to persevere in their scientific endeavors. With 14 of her 16 team members being women, she encouraged persistence in focused scientific fields, likening research to a marathon that requires time and dedication.
