The opening ceremony of the 2025 Greater Bay Area Science Forum (GSF) was held in Nansha, Guangzhou, on Dec 7.

Twelve universities from Hong Kong and Macao, as well as their affiliated institutions in Guangdong, jointly signed an initiative to further engage in developing the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) as an international hub for sci-tech innovation, aiming to help the GBA take the lead in building a globally competitive, open innovation ecosystem.

The initiative covers areas including innovation coordination, open sharing, industry empowerment, and talent co-cultivation. It clearly proposes to jointly promote the co-construction and sharing of large-scale scientific instruments in the GBA, gradually open and share major scientific research infrastructure and large-scale scientific instruments of each university and actively guide researchers to use the GBA's major scientific facilities. It also urges streamlining procedures for cross-border use and circulation of scientific research equipment and samples within the GBA and advocates the compliant, gradual implementation of cross-border scientific research data flow in the region.

Additionally, the initiative promotes joint talent training models like "mentors entering campuses and students entering enterprises" and "university recruitment with enterprise employment".
