Greater Bay Area Science Forum 2025 held in Guangzhou
The Greater Bay Area (GBA) Science Forum 2025, with the theme "Industry-Research Integration Drives Smart Innovation in the GBA", took place on Dec 7 in Nansha district, Guangzhou, Guangdong province, South China.
During the opening ceremony, Wang Guangqian, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, highlighted the GBA's importance as a central hub for technological innovation in China.
He emphasized utilizing the GBA's institutional strengths to improve regional innovation efficiency and boost original innovation along with industry-academia partnerships to establish new competitive edges in artificial intelligence, new energy, and new materials industrial clusters.
Wang also underlined the importance of enhancing the talent pool to turn the region into a center of innovative talent.
Guangdong Provincial Governor Meng Fanli, speaking at the meeting, emphasized the region's robust innovation ecosystem, comprehensive industrial system, favorable business climate, and large market. He invited global scientists, entrepreneurs, and investors to work together and grow in the GBA.
Hou Jianguo, president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, expressed hopes to use the forum as an opportunity to accelerate technological innovation and industrial development, aiming to establish the region as a key driver of global original innovation.
Bai Chunli, chair of the GBA Science Forum, said that the forum will continue to serve as an open platform to facilitate the cross-regional exchange of innovative resources and accelerate the implementation of more innovative achievements within the GBA. This effort aims to help the region become a central hub in the global innovation network.
During the forum, 12 universities from Hong Kong and Macao signed a joint initiative to strengthen their involvement in the GBA's international science and technology innovation center. The Chinese Academy of Sciences reported advancements in key scientific infrastructure projects in Guangdong, while Guangzhou introduced policies to promote collaboration in technological and industrial innovation.
