Nie said the Greater Bay Area has advantages such as an open economic structure, high resource allocation capacity, strong agglomeration and overflow functions, and developed international communication networks. The economy in the Greater Bay Area plays an important role in driving global economic development and technological innovation.

In the new era, he said the Greater Bay Area will face various challenges such as becoming a strategic point of the new development pattern, a demonstration site for high-quality development, and a leading place for Chinese path to modernization.

Technological innovation: helping the Greater Bay Area to achieve self-reliance

Technological innovation is a key factor in enhancing the overall strength and core competitiveness of countries and regions, and is also an important driving force for the high-quality development of the Greater Bay Area.

Nie pointed out that the development of artificial intelligence, biomedicine, and new energy in the GBA has achieved positive progress, but there are still challenges such as insufficient scientific research talents and incomplete collaborative innovation.

Due to the significant differences between the Greater Bay Area of China and the rest of the world, enhancing the overall innovation capacity of the Greater Bay Area requires strengthening internal coordination and external cooperation.

Nie said it is necessary to strengthen internal coordination in the GBA, establish coordination organizations, and transform from extensive cooperation between Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao. Also, the GBA should draw on the cooperation experience of the government and well-known enterprises in the world-renowned Bay Area and build an international cooperation platform, he said.
