Songshan Lake laboratory and GSF meet for cooperation

A delegation led by Wang Weihua, director of Songshan Lake Materials Laboratory, paid a visit to the Greater Bay Area Science Forum on April 13, 2023. Xie Wei, deputy secretary of the Party Working Committee of Nansha Development Zone, Guangdong province; and Chen Guoqing, deputy district mayor of Nansha district attended the meeting. Wang is also an academician with the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).

Nie Xiaowei, executive secretary general of the Greater Bay Area Science Forum, said that the GSF would make full use of space in Nansha district, superior policy environment and advantages of the science and innovation platform in Greater Bay Area. It will also strengthen linkages with international forums, explore cutting-edge scientific and technological fields under the Belt and Road Initiative, and create an inclusive, cooperative and shared innovation ecosystem.

Xie said that Nansha district will support the Greater Bay Area Science Forum to become the "Davos" of Chinese technology. The permanent site of the science forum will integrate four major functions: a conference center, a science and technology innovation center, a science and technology museum, and a scientist's apartment. It will become a landmark building for world-class scientific exchange. It will be operational in 2025. At the same time, he pointed out that Nansha district will continue to leverage the combined advantages of the national level new area, free trade pilot zone, and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao comprehensive cooperation demonstration zone.

Chen said he welcomes various institutional platforms to a series of exchanges and discussions in Nansha district, to assist in the development of the district.

Academician Wang introduced the progress made in Songshan Lake Materials Laboratory. He hoped that they can explore higher-level cooperation with the GSF, leverage the role of the platform hub, mobilize the enthusiasm of scientific research institutions, universities, and institutions for academic exchange, and assist in the innovative development of the Greater Bay Area.
