Greater-bay Science Forum held in Guangzhou to showcase latest achievements

The Greater-bay Science Forum 2021, themed "Exploring the Future, Sharing Scientific Achievement," was held both online and offline in Guangzhou, capital of south China’s Guangdong province, from Dec 11 to 13, 2021. 

Hosted by the Guangdong provincial government, the forum attracted more than 100 top scientists from around the world and international science and technology organizations to discuss future trends and impacts of the global scientific development. 

The event was designed as a high-end window to unfold the achievements in scientific and technological innovation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, to gather global wisdom to boost the growth of GBA as an important global innovation engine, and explore new approaches to address global challenges.

Nobel laureates, academicians and experts, young scientists and businesspeople from the industrial and commercial sectors around the world shared their latest achievements at the high-level exchange platform, and joined discussions on such issues as the prediction and early warning of COVID-19 and other major public health emergencies, the healthy development of global network communication technology and the industry and sustainable development goals of the United Nations. 

Leading academicians and experts, including Zhong Nanshan, winner of the Medal of the Republic and Xue Qikun, winner of the Future Science Prize, made presentations about life science, quantum science and high energy physics at the forum, which was held in Nansha, Guangzhou, its permanent venue.

Online participants overseas included Jerzy Duszynski, president of Polish Academy of Sciences, Miguel Nicolelis, academician of French Academy of Sciences and Brazilian Academy of Sciences, Steve Kay, director of college of medical, engineering, science and humanities at the University of Southern California, the United States and Andrea Alù, academician of the US National Academy of Inventors, Ping-kong Alexander Wai, president of Hong Kong Baptist University and Teng Jinguang, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and president of Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Chinese artificial intelligence company, iFLYTEK Co Ltd, Cloudwalk Technology and Guangzhou Institute of Intelligent Software, introduced their latest products on scientific and technological innovations, such as intelligent simultaneous interpretation, robot disinfection and sterilization and holographic projection

Guangzhou, the core engine of the international center for science and technology innovation of the Greater Bay Area, is jointly building innovation corridors with Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Zhuhai and Macao, highlighting development of the Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City and Nansha Science City.

The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area comprises nine cities in Guangdong province plus the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions. It has a total population of more than 86 million with a combined GDP of nearly $1.67 trillion.
