The large-scale musical dance drama Thousand Hands and Thousand Eyes completed its 2026 resident season at the Dunhuang Grand Theater on Aug 10, bringing down the curtain on a one-month run that began July 10.
The production has become a standout cultural highlight of Dunhuang's summer tourism, offering immersive Silk Road experiences to visitors.
Drawing inspiration from the mural art of the Mogao Caves and rooted in classical legends, the show blends ancient Dunhuang music and dance, immersive stage design, and modern audiovisual technology. Through graceful movements, it conveys themes of compassion, warmth, and inclusiveness, vividly recreating the artistic spirit of the millennium-old Dunhuang.
The performers expressed deep attachment to the role and gratitude to the audience, saying that while this phase has ended, the allure of Dunhuang culture will endure.
They also added that the team supported one another throughout the process and remained committed to embodying the protective and merciful spirit of the thousand‑handed, thousand‑eyed figure, vowing to carry this experience forward and share it with more audiences.
