Radiance of Dunhuang, an exhibition that highlights Tsinghua University's research and design work and is inspired by the ancient art of Dunhuang, opened on Dec 8 at the United Nations headquarters in New York and wrapped up on Dec 12.
Featuring Dunhuang art, the exhibition presents representative works by artists such as Pang Xunqin, Chang Shana, Chen Hanmin, and Liu Jude.
It also showcases recent creations in fashion design, painting, digital media, and virtual art by faculty, students, and alumni. Archival materials such as mural reproductions and pattern studies highlight the academy's scholarly dedication to Dunhuang.
Yu Yougen, an education counselor at the Chinese Consulate in New York, said Dunhuang holds great significance as a world cultural heritage, highlighting that the exhibition provides a platform for global cultural exchange.
Academy representatives said serving society and promoting cultural heritage through design has been its mission. The display, covering both historical studies and contemporary explorations using AI and digital technology, aims to extend the academy's international influence.
Wang Xiaomo, associate dean of Tsinghua University's Academy of Arts and Design, said the exhibition reflected the school's long-standing commitment to cultural preservation and innovation, while also featuring newer work using AI, digital media, 3D printing, and virtual fashion.
The exhibition features over 80 works spanning nearly 70 years of Dunhuang-related research and design education, illustrating both the inheritance and modern reinterpretation of this ancient art.
