An exhibition of traditional printing and dyeing art was held in Dachen village, Qiancang town, Jinhua, Zhejiang province, on Dec 18.
A traditional courtyard was adorned with beautiful indigo-dyed cloth featuring images of lotus flowers, cherry blossoms, and rabbits. Visitors marveled at the array of stunning artistic creations, experiencing the allure of this intangible cultural heritage.
The exhibition showcased over 50 works made using four dyeing techniques, including tie-dying and batik, all created by Li Haiyan.
As an intangible culture heritage practitioner, Li crafted the works using traditional plant dyeing techniques and made innovative garments, cushions, and scarves with indigo-dyed cloth. Her dedication has sparked interest in the art of printing and dyeing, infusing Dachen village with a sense of artistic vibrancy.
Qiancang town has been bolstering its cultural endeavors in recent years by preserving traditional opera art and encouraging Li to establish a workshop to promote dying techniques. "This exhibition has the potential to help more people learn about the plant dyeing art, revitalizing intangible cultural heritage and rural development," said Lu Zhongjian, Party secretary of the town.
During the exhibition, visitors also had the opportunity to experience the plant dyeing technique and appreciate tea art performances.
