The 2024 Wuzhou Confucius Culture Week commenced in Juxi village, Pan'an county, Jinhua, Zhejiang province, on Sept 28.
During the opening ceremony, a book on Southern Confucianism in Wuzhou (ancient name of Jinhua) was released and cultural tourism exchange groups between Pan'an and Qufu in Shandong province were inaugurated. It also featured the plaque awarding ceremony for the international Confucius culture study base.
The Confucius family in Wuzhou can be traced back to the early years of the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279). The number of Confucius descendants originating from Juxi village now exceeds 20,000, spread across more than 10 counties and 91 villages in the vicinity.
The Confucius family in Wuzhou shares ancestral ties with that in Shandong's Qufu and Zhejiang's Quzhou, with the Family Temple of Confucius in Juxi standing as one of only three family temples in the country.
Following the opening ceremony, a group consisting of international students, Pan'an youth, and Chinese families began a study tour of Confucius culture.
The culture week will feature a variety of activities including live demonstrations of rural Confucian culture, educational programs for children in Confucian studies, and national intangible cultural heritage performances.
