The express delivery sector in Yiwu, a county-level city in Jinhua, Zhejiang province, has seen remarkable growth, with a cumulative volume of 8.165 billion from January to August, marking a 14.03 percent year-on-year increase, according to the Yiwu postal administration.
International and Hong Kong-Macao-Taiwan express deliveries surged by 40.9 percent, reaching 39.873 million pieces.
Wang Dongsheng, deputy director of the market supervision division at the Yiwu postal administration, highlighted that Yiwu accounted for 7.5 percent of the national express deliveries in the first 8 months, securing the top spot among county-level cities in China.
The boost in domestic express delivery can be attributed to sports events like the Paris Olympics and the UEFA European Football Championship, coupled with the continued popularity of e-commerce live-streaming. Xian Cheng from Yiwu Renchen Jewelry Co noted a significant uptick in sales of items like luminous resin turtle toys, a trend sparked by Olympic champion Quan Hongchan.
On the international front, the 33 enterprises in Yiwu engaging in international express delivery have benefited from improved cross-border logistics infrastructure.
"In July, China Post opened an international freight route from Yiwu to Manila, the Philippines. Our goods can now be shipped straight to doorsteps in Manila and other places in about a week," said Zhou Wanjuan from Yiwu Panduo E-commerce Co, which has seen a 20 percent increase in its cross-border orders from Southeast Asia this year.
