The white-necked long-tailed pheasant has been sighted at Jinhua Mountain in Jinhua, Zhejiang province, marking the first-ever visual documentation of the bird species in the city.
The bird, a national first-class protected wildlife species, was discovered by Chen Jiankun, a forest farm worker, near the mountain on May 3.
Chen noted that the presence of the bird on the mountain signifies ongoing improvements in its environment and biodiversity.
Ye Duo, a researcher at the Biodiversity Laboratory of Zhejiang Normal University, recently conducted a field investigation with nature photographer Ying Jun. During their investigation, they discovered another pair of the birds and captured valuable footage of the female bird.
