Jinhua in East China's Zhejiang province has been working to build itself into an advanced manufacturing base with a focus on the new energy sector. By the end of 2022, it had nurtured 18 industrial clusters with a total value of over 10 billion yuan ($1.4 billion), and had more than 5,700 large-scale industrial enterprises with total output value reaching 677.6 billion yuan, local media reported.

Currently, Jinhua's new energy industry is experiencing strong momentum and has formed two major iconic industrial clusters in photovoltaics and new energy vehicles. In 2022, the total output value of 180 large-scale new energy enterprises in Jinhua amounted to 137.07 billion yuan, accounting for 20 percent of that of the city's large-scale industries. The photovoltaic industry in Jinhua achieved a 90.96 billion yuan in output value, accounting for 36.4 percent of the provincial total.

It has formed a complete vehicle production system featuring energy-saving vehicles, pure electric vehicles, and plug-in hybrid vehicles as the main focus, as well as an automotive parts production system with power batteries and motors at the core.

In addition, the new energy industry is one of the main battlegrounds for scientific and technological innovation in Jinhua, which has two provincial key laboratories and seven provincial key enterprise research institutes.
