The 2023 National Electric Surfing Championship will be held in Jinhua, East China's Zhejiang province, from July 7 to 9.
The event will feature 31 representative teams from 16 provinces and cities, with over 150 athletes participating, as well as 18 competitive events, including a new youth category and the electrifying electric hydrofoil surfing demonstration. The championship promises to be the most thrilling yet.
Last year, Jinhua's 17th Zhejiang Provincial Games featured electric surfboarding as an exhibition event, awarding a total of 8 gold medals and making Zhejiang the first province to include electric surfboarding as an official event in a provincial sports competition.
Electric surfboarding is an example of China's efforts to fuse the manufacturing and sports industries. Zhejiang Yiwei Intelligent Technology Co in Wuyi county, Jinhua was a pioneer in electric surfboard production. Shijun, the company's spokesperson, explained, "with the establishment of the electric surfboarding category by the General Administration of Sport of China and the popularity fueled by the Winter Olympics and provincial games, more and more outdoor sports clubs are showing interest in this sport, attracting a growing number of fans."
Jinhua aims to establish itself as the "national capital of electric surfboarding" by using sports events as a catalyst for the city's development.
