Jinhua makes strides in rural vitalization

Authorities in Jinhua, East China's Zhejiang province have been making efforts to advance rural vitalization over the past two decades.

Efforts include improving the living environment in rural areas, developing rural industries, and providing public services.

Authorities launched a campaign to upgrade roads, classify garbage, renovate toilets, treat sewage, and increase greenery from 2003 to 2010, with the living environment of 4,103 villages improved significantly.

Authorities have been tapping into local natural resources to develop industries related to tourism, health, e-commerce, and cultural and creative products, which will in turn aid its common prosperity drive.

The city is currently home to 1,939 A-level scenic villages, 2,100 agritainment and 536 e-commerce villages, and has generated a collective income of 530 million yuan ($74.72 million). The per capita disposable income of residents in the city's rural areas increased from 4,157 yuan in 2002 to 35,630 yuan in 2022.

Authorities have also channeled more resources towards improving infrastructure and public services in its rural areas, with the water supply network, elderly care centers, compulsory schools and healthcare centers fully covered.

Authorities have also adopted digital technologies to strengthen primary-level governance.
