Private library in Pujiang an ancient book haven

A 130-year private library in Pujiang county in Jinhua, East China's Zhejiang province, is home to thousands of ancient books from the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and the Republic of China (1912-1949) period.

Li Zhongdong, who is in charge of the library, said that the majority of the books were handed down from his ancestors, with some of the books being the only existing copies so are of great historic value.

He added that he had selected 35 books about politics, economy, irrigation and water conservancy, imperial examinations, Chinese medicine, as well as astronomy and geography as a reference for compiling the county's annals.

Li, who has been engaged in professional writing for more than 20 years, has published several literary works like the legendary story Niuduji.
