Lanhu Lake in Lanxi, a county-level city in Jinhua, East China's Zhejiang province, has been listed among the best places for bird watching, the Zhejiang Provincial Forestry Bureau announced on March 31.

Twelve places in the province made the list.

A provincial tourism resort, Lanhu Lake has a 3,000-mu (200 hectares) lake surface, a 10,000-mu tea garden, and a lush forest.

A total of 151 bird species have been discovered on the lake and its surrounding areas. Among these birds, the Glossy ibis, Oriental white stork and the black-faced spoonbill are under national first-class protection.

Twenty-two species, including the Eurasian spoonbill, the swan goose and the cygnet, are under national second-class protection.

Three Chinese endemic bird species have also been spotted at the lake.

Bird-watching enthusiasts have recorded sightings of about 300 cormorants, 300 Eastern spot-billed ducks, 100 mallards, 24 White spoonbills and 17 Oriental white storks at the lake.
