Four places in Jinhua, East China's Zhejiang province, were recognized nationally for their efforts to develop characteristic cultural arts, the National Rural Revitalization Administration announced on Feb 23.

Fostering cultural arts is crucial to promoting spiritual civilization and cultural vitalization in rural areas, said local authorities.

Taocun village in Jinhua's Wuyi county received the honor for its Kunqu Opera, which was listed as a provincial intangible cultural heritage item in 2007.

Dongyang, a county-level city in Jinhua, received recognition for its wood carving techniques, which was listed among national intangible cultural heritage in 2006.

Zhuge Bagua village in Lanxi, a county-level city in Jinhua, earned the honor for its ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911).

The village, which is China's largest settlement for ancestors of Zhuge Liang, the prominent politician and strategist of the Three Kingdoms (220-280), has been making efforts to conserve its cultural heritage in recent years.

Hengdian town in Dongyang was recognized nationally for its efforts in developing its film and television cultural industry over the past 20 years.

About one fourth of films, one third of TV dramas, and two thirds of costume dramas in the country were shot in the town.
