The China Ecological Civilization Forum Nanchang Annual Conference identified the sixth group of national demonstration areas for ecological civilization construction on Nov 19.

Jinhua, a city in Zhejiang province, was included in the list.

To date, Jinhua has won eight Dayu Cups, including two gold ones for its efforts in treating sewage, preventing flooding, draining flooded land, maintaining the water supply, and saving water.

The Dayu Cup is the highest honor in Zhejiang province for water control efforts. It is named after Dayu, a legendary ancient Chinese hero who is best known for controlling the flooding of the Yellow River.

Jinhua has also been committed to improving its air quality. More than 14,000 enterprises in the city have been rectified and reformed to reduce pollutant emissions to date.

In 2021, Jinhua's average concentration of PM2.5 decreased to 27 micrograms per cubic meter from 70 micrograms per cubic meter in 2013.

The forest coverage rate in Jinhua has climbed up to 61.86 percent in 2021 from 60.4 percent in 2012.

Due to the improvements to the ecological environment, Jinhua's biodiversity has increased. At present, the number of terrestrial wildlife in Jinhua accounts for 51.14 percent of the provincial total, official statistics show.
