Yiwu, a city in Zhejiang province, was selected to host the 2023 Asia-Pacific Member Conference of the United Cities and Local Governments, according to the local foreign affairs office.

The city was also re-elected as a member of the World Council and Executive Bureau under the UCLG.

Yiwu applied to host the 2023 Asia-Pacific Member Conference of the UCLG in mid-October and recently achieved official approval.

The conference is expected to become a platform for sharing Yiwu's advantages in business foundation, logistics, and cross-border e-commerce, and encourage more commodities from member cities in the Asia-Pacific region to come to China and expand throughout the world in order to drive the economic recovery and sustained prosperity of the Asia-Pacific region.

Yiwu, who joined the UCLG in 2017, was elected a member of its World Council and Executive Bureau in 2019.

In May 2019, Yiwu hosted the Asia-Pacific Executive Board Meeting and the Belt and Road Initiative International City Economic and Trade Cooperation Dialogue. More than 360 guests from 79 cities, regions and organizations in 41 countries attended the meeting.

The UCLG has enrolled over 1,000 member cities from 140 countries since it was established in Paris in 2004. Its Executive Bureau is responsible for putting forward proposals and carrying out the decisions of the World Council. It is also in charge of the organization's administrative and financial management.
