The sustained efforts made by Jinhua in East China's Zhejiang province to improve its environment over the past decade have been paying dividends.

The quality of surface water collected from 47 monitoring stations across Jinhua and all its centralized drinking water sources has met national standards for five years in a row.

Garbage sorting has been promoted in both its urban and rural areas, with some practices adopted by the city being adopted in other parts of the nation.

Jinhua's afforestation rate also climbed to 61.34 percent in 2021, 0.94 percentage points higher than 2011.

By 2021, the air quality in the city had reached the national second-level standard for three consecutive years.

The public's satisfaction with the local ecological environment has also been growing steadily over the past 10 years, according to survey results.

The local government's efforts to promote green development have played a big part in the improvement of the environment.

During the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015) period, Jinhua rectified or shut down more than 20,000 enterprises in heavily polluting sectors, including cement, printing and dyeing, electroplating and crystal, before including another 287,000 in the campaign in the following five-year period.

Jinhua has been honored as national garden city, a national forest city as well as a provincial model city in ecological civilization.
