Zhuwang village, Jinhua, hosted short tennis competitions for the 17th Games of Zhejiang Province on Sept 2.

It was the first time a village-level gymnasium has hosted a provincial sporting event, attracting attention of many local residents.

Zhuwang Gymnasium, with an area of 1,100 square meters, is located at the entrance of the village. With a total investment of 1.2 million yuan ($173,219), construction on the gymnasium started in 2016.

Zhang Fuhua, Party secretary of Zhuwang village, said that with the support of the government of Jiaodao town, Zhuwang Gymnasium is undertaking more than 30 municipal and county-level sports events and many sport meets of local enterprises every year.

The gymnasium was also renovated to host the provincial games and add 160 seats and air conditioners.

"The gymnasium is open to locals at all times, and that's why we built it," said Zhang proudly, adding that local athletes always take the initiative to turn off the lights and windows and clean up after using the gym.

Meanwhile, Zhuwang Homestay can provide 15 cozy rooms for athletes during competitions.

Zhang said that over 3 million yuan in revenue can be brought in annually from the development of sports in Zhuwang village. The village also made the list of characteristic and boutique villages of beautiful countryside construction in Zhejiang province.
