The Dongyang maci dumpling is a traditional dessert made of polished glutinous rice, brown sugar and sesame.
It was developed in Yao village, Nanma town, Dongyang, as a snack to help local kiln workers stave off hunger between meals.

How to make Dongyang maci dumplings:
1. Soak the polished glutinous rice and steam it. Pour the boiled rice into a stone mortar and pound it into a paste with a wooden hammer.
2. Pound the paste continuously and keep stirring it with hands dipped in warm water.
3. Lay out the paste on a wooden board sprinkled with cooked rice flour with hands dipped in warm water. After cooling, use a knife to cut the paste into slices. Sprinkle brown sugar into two slices and enjoy.
