The Jinhua academy of agricultural sciences launched a development base for day lilies in Huolushan village in Yongchang sub-district, Lanxi city, Jinhua on July 5.
Day lily harvest season, which runs from July to August, is the busiest time for farmers in Huolushan village. Local farmer in the village are used to getting up before sunrise every morning to collect the flowers.
The flowers of day lilies, a profitable product, are also known as "worry-free grass" and are used as a popular food ingredient throughout China.

Wu Yueying, Party secretary of Huolushan village, said it is now peak season for picking day lilies. Hundreds of local farmers can pick about 40 kilograms of day lilies per person per day. The flowers will be sold after drying for 56 yuan ($8.35) per kilogram.
With support from the Jinhua academy of agricultural sciences, the local day lily industry in Huolushan village is expected to expand substantially and improve rural tourism and rural vitalization.
