Wuyi-developed lotuses bloom in Xinjiang

Many visitors to Wensu county, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region have been admiring the blooming flowers of Xuanlian, a type of lotus developed in Wuyi county, Jinhua, East China's Zhejiang province, in recent days.

The Xuanlian demonstration plantation, located in Jinhua New Village, Tuohula township, Wensu county, introduced various kinds of Xuanlian lotus from Jinhua's Wuyi county in 2020.

The flowers stared to bloom at the end of June, and their flowering period lasts until early August, providing visitors with wonderful summer views.

According to workers, Wensu county is rich in water resources and has sufficient light, making it suitable for growng lotus roots. After two years of growth, the Xuanlian lotus plantation is now piloting the integrated development of rural vitalization and tourism.

At the 60 mu (4 hectares) of lotus pond, locals can admire lotus flowers, pick lotus pods, and harvest two metric tons of lotus roots worth over 8,000 yuan ($1,193) per mu.

Xuanlian is one of the three most famous types of lotus in China. The lotus pods are large, round, plump and thick, and the lotus roots are crispy, delicious, and rich in nutrients.
