A Yiwu-Xinjiang-Europe freight train departed from South Jinhua Station for Milan, the second biggest city in Italy, on May 21.

It was the first time a Yiwu-Xinjiang-Europe freight train traveled to Milan, providing a new fast channel for the export of goods from East China's Zhejiang province to Italy.

The freight train, carrying fabrics, hardware tools and stationery worth about $2.86 million, will leave the country from Alashankou, China's closest railway port to the European Union. It will spend about 20 days running on the 12,300-kilometer railway and before arriving in Milan.

Italy, known as the end of the ancient Silk Road and the point where it meets the maritime Silk Road, had flourishing trade relations with China in ancient times.

In 2022, a total of 300 Yiwu-Xinjiang-Europe freight trains have been launched from the Jindong platform in Jinhua, a year-on-year increase of 10 percent. Officials of the Jindong platform said they will ensure smooth transport between Jinhua and Milan to deepen economic and trade exchanges and cooperation with southern Europe.
