The 16th Hardware Products Design Competition came to an end in Yongkang, East China's Zhejiang province, on March 23.

The competition attracted 2,030 works by participants from over 20 countries and regions, including German, France, Spain, India and Thailand. Their works are required to be themed around smart cups and pots, rail transit equipment, smart door locks, outdoor leisure products, and kitchen products.

After several rounds of competition, a total of 53 works qualified for the finals. Five gold awards, 10 silver awards, and 15 bronze awards were given out at the competition. A number of high-quality design works such as "Press-type Thermos Cups" and "Disinfection Robots for Metro" will be widely produced.

In recent years, Yongkang has been focusing on the development of industrial design. The city is currently home to more than 60 industrial design enterprises of various types and over 500 design talents. It is thought that industrial design can generate over 10 billion yuan ($1.57 billion) in annual output.

The city plans to promote the deep integration of industrial design with new materials, new technologies and new processes and make more high-quality industrial products during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period.

First held in 2006, the Hardware Products Design Competition has seen 27,000 participants, and over 1,000 works have been widely produced. The annual competition has become a platform for interactions between local enterprises, colleges and design institutions.
