The newly discovered Shangshan find was made in Zaodongkou village, in Lanxi's Shanghua community, about 20 minutes' drive from downtown Lanxi.

"2021 marks the 20th anniversary of the discovery of first Shangshan site and the 20th Shangshan cultural site has been discovered in the 20th year, which is very meaningful," said Jiang Leping, a researcher with the Zhejiang Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology.

The 20 Shangshan sites have been discovered mainly in the upper reaches of the Qiantang River in Zhejiang and its tributaries and also in the upper reaches of the province's Lingjiang River. Jinhua is said to account for two-thirds of the sites, with 14 sites in all.
