A fully-loaded postal truck departed from the Yiwu International Mail Exchange Bureau in Yiwu, East China's Zhejiang province, on Sept 19, marking the debut of the "Yiwu-Moscow" highway-railway combined freight route.

The 270,000 delivery parcels on the truck will later be transferred to train carriages and arrive in Moscow, Russia 15 days later.

Yiwu is the first county-level city in China to operate a highway-railway combined freight route for cross-border delivery. This was made possible through the joint efforts of Yiwu authorities, China Post, and Cainiao Network.

Compared with conventional marine transportation, the new transport mode will shorten the delivery time from Yiwu to Moscow by 30 days and provide a major reduction in logistic costs for cross-border e-commerce enterprises.

In view of this, Yiwu is expected to play an even more significant role in promoting Chinese-Russian trade.
