Train X8020, which was carrying 100 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), departed Jinyi New District in Jinhua for Budapest, capital of Hungary on June 7. It is the first China-Europe train in the Yangtze River Delta to travel to Hungary, marking a new milestone in cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European countries.
Jinyi New District and Yiwu in Jinhua have dispatched more than 3,000 trains carrying over 250,000 TEUs to Central Asia and Europe since the first train departed in Nov 2014.
To date, Jinyi New District has housed 18 China-Europe freight trains, including 12 outward trains.
The Jinhua-Hungary train is loaded with machine parts and accessories, electronics, and daily necessities that weigh 554 metric tons and are worth 21 million yuan ($3.29 million).
The train will pass through Poland, Czech Republic and other countries and arrive in Budapest after 18 days.
Statistics show that Jinyi New District has sent 286 such trains and delivered 23,700 TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 566 percent, in the first five months of the year.
Jinyi New District and Yiwu are aiming to send 1,500 trains this year. By 2025, more than 3,000 Yiwu-Xinjiang-Europe trains are expected to be dispatched from the two places.
