A national Museum of Computing will be built in Qianjiang Century City, a central business district along the Qiantang River in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, according to a news conference held on Aug 22.

Jointly built by the China Computer Federation (CCF) and Xiaoshan district, the 20,000-square-meter museum, which will start construction at the end of the year, is designed to be the only large-scale museum of computer science in China. It will be dedicated to displaying a record of all aspects of the history of computing and digital development to the public.

Currently, China and Asia on the whole is underdeveloped when it comes to computer museums. As the capital of Zhejiang province, Hangzhou stands out due to its booming economy and thriving computer and internet industries, according to Du Zide, secretary general of CCF.

Gao Wen, president of CCF, said that the museum will belong not only to China, but to the world, and as such it will serve as a window for the Chinese computer industry to the world.

It is expected that the museum will facilitate the development of leading hi-tech industries in Xiaoshan district, including big data, biomedicine, media and new energy.

Meanwhile, the 2018 China National Computer Congress (CNCC), the largest and highest level event of its kind in the computer field in China, will also kick off in the city on Oct 25.

Focusing on the big data and Chinese digital economy, the conference is expected to draw more than 7,000 industrial experts and business representatives from across the world.
