Taizhou advances toward becoming a 'Zero-Waste City'

Taizhou, Zhejiang province, made significant progress in its 'Zero-Waste City' initiative in 2023.

The city has established two national-level green industrial parks, 32 green factories, and nine green supply chain management enterprises. The comprehensive utilization rate of general industrial solid waste has exceeded 99 percent, according to the Taizhou Ecology and Environment Bureau on Nov 22.

Focusing on hazardous waste, general industrial solid waste, agricultural waste, household waste, and construction debris, Taizhou has implemented robust measures to enhance waste reduction, recycling, and harmless treatment.

The city has developed a comprehensive regulatory system for hazardous waste and introduced a smart system for collecting and transporting waste oil in the automotive repair industry.

In agriculture, Taizhou excels in recycling livestock and poultry waste, with a utilization rate exceeding 94 percent. It has established 355 agricultural waste recycling spots, achieving a straw utilization rate of over 96 percent.

Additionally, the city has built seven large and 98 small direct utilization sites for construction waste, reaching a 98.3 percent utilization rate. It has also reduced household waste, with a 100 percent recycling rate and a harmless treatment rate in 2023.
