From labs to the coast: A summer of discovery at OUC

What can young scholars discover when marine science meets cross-cultural exchange?

Ocean University of China (OUC) hosted an international summer school for outstanding students in basic disciplines and a marine science exchange camp for young scholars in July, bringing together 46 participants from 17 universities in China and overseas.

Through international lectures, group discussions and collaborative activities, students explored frontier topics in earth system and marine sciences. They boarded a research vessel, visited marine science and eco-technology museums, conducted laboratory experiments and joined coastal field surveys.

Visits to companies and factories offered a closer look at environmental technologies in practice. Participants also toured the campuses, made dumplings, practiced Chinese calligraphy and experienced tea culture.

Students from the United Kingdom described the program as engaging and eye-opening. They valued the opportunity to exchange ideas with their Chinese peers, experience everyday life in China and gain a deeper understanding of cultural differences, openness and inclusion between East and West.
