International youth explore marine science and culture at OUC

Organized by Ocean University of China (OUC), the 2026 International Youth School Exchange Camp on Marine Environmental Sciences brought together dozens of students and young scholars from around the world.

Participants came from China and countries including the United Kingdom, Australia, Spain, Japan, Portugal and Malaysia. They represented over 10 universities and research institutions, including the University of Cambridge and University College London (UCL).

Held in Qingdao over two weeks, the camp combined academic exchange, hands-on learning and cultural immersion. Participants attended lectures and academic salons on marine science, artificial intelligence, and climate change. They visited the Dong Fang Hong 3 Research Vessel, a comprehensive deep-sea vessel independently designed and built in China.

They also toured exhibition halls and museums covering marine science and technology, marine biology, and new energy technology, and conducted experiments and field surveys.

Beyond the classroom, they engaged with traditional Chinese musical instruments, calligraphy, sachet-making, and dumpling-making. The program enhanced their knowledge of marine environmental science and promoted cross-cultural dialogue, friendship, and potential academic collaboration.
