Cities are born by water, and grow through water. For Xylem China, Shanghai is not only a city with beautiful waterfronts, but also a place where global water innovation can take root.
In this episode, Zhao Donghui, president of Xylem China, explains why Xylem chose Shanghai for its China headquarters. He says the city's transparent regulation, efficient administration, strong talent pool and open, inclusive environment give the company confidence to place key functions here, including R&D, supply chain and digital transformation.
What impresses Zhao the most is Shanghai's ability to turn a strong business environment into practical support. During visits from Changning district and Zhoujiaqiao subdistrict, Xylem saw local authorities' commitment to improving residents' water experience, upgrading buildings, supporting urban renewal and introducing advanced water technologies into green, low-carbon projects.
This cooperation is visible in a riverside park in Changning, where two Xylem drinking-water facilities serve residents, children and sports lovers along Suzhou Creek.
After five years in Shanghai, Zhao says he has felt both "Shanghai speed" and "Shanghai warmth". From this water-loving city, Xylem hopes to work with Shanghai and China to build a safer, better future.
