The 2026 Shanghai Songjiang Lotus Festival opened on July 3 at the lotus pond in Xinbang town, offering a diverse program of cultural performances, sports events, and traditional crafts through Aug 20.

Two major cooperative projects were launched during the event: a triathlon training camp and the "Lotus-Born Intangible Heritage" initiative, integrating sports and traditional crafts with rural lotus pond tourism.

According to Zhu Bin, the festival's operations director, this year's program retains popular mud-based activities such as mud football, mud tug-of-war, and other fun sports. New additions include a lotus-pattern fabric dyeing workshop and themed cycling routes through the countryside. A parent-child study tour titled "One Brush, One Flower, One Grain of Rice" will also be offered.
