Jinshan opens coastal grassland as new waterfront leisure destination

A newly developed coastal grassland spanning 560,000 square meters officially opened to the public on July 1 in Shanghai's Jinshan district, providing residents and visitors with a new waterfront destination for outdoor recreation.

The site features expansive lawns overlooking the Jinshan Islands, walking trails, children's play areas, sports facilities, and public art installations. The pet-friendly park also offers 335 parking spaces and other visitor amenities. Since opening, it has become a popular destination for kite flying, picnics, camping, and seaside walks.

The site was transformed from a former coastal saline tidal flat through ecological restoration and landscape improvements. It is now the largest continuous coastal grassland along the northern coast of Hangzhou Bay and serves as a key public green space within Jinshan's waterfront redevelopment.

The project follows the district's development approach, prioritizing ecological restoration before large-scale construction. Additional waterfront areas to the east will receive further ecological upgrades as part of the long-term plan.

The new grassland complements Jinshan City Beach, one of Shanghai's best-known coastal attractions. While the beach focuses on water sports and entertainment, the grassland provides a quieter setting for relaxation and outdoor activities, broadening the district's tourism offerings and encouraging longer visitor stays.

According to the operator, more cultural and tourism events are planned for the site later this year.
