Located where the Yangtze River meets the East China Sea, Chongming Island is a shining example of China's commitment to green development. Ten years after the Yangtze River protection strategy was launched, the world's largest estuarine alluvial island has blossomed into a world-class ecological haven.

As Shanghai's first UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site, Chongming has made remarkable strides in biodiversity conservation. The island has successfully managed the invasive Atlantic cordgrass, reviving its sprawling wetlands for migratory birds. It has also implemented strict measures to protect the migration routes of the endangered Chinese sturgeon, an ancient species of fish.

Boasting a wetland protection rate of over 68 percent and consistently excellent air quality, Chongming perfectly illustrates the harmonious coexistence of humanity and nature. The island not only protects local ecosystems but also contributes valuable wisdom to global biodiversity conservation.
