Xuhui AI companies promote cooperation in Brazil
Xuhui district in Shanghai held a promotional event for its artificial intelligence companies in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on May 19 as part of the "Invest in Shanghai, Share the Future" overseas roadshow, aiming to deepen BRICS cooperation in AI and support local companies' expansion into Latin America.
China and Brazil are both founding members of BRICS, and China has been Brazil's largest trading partner for 17 consecutive years. Shanghai and Sao Paulo have maintained close ties since becoming sister cities in the 1980s.
The Xuhui operations base of the China-BRICS Artificial Intelligence Development and Cooperation Center was established in 2025. At the Sao Paulo event, the center launched its Brazil service network, also known as the Shanghai Xuhui overseas service base, aimed at facilitating AI cooperation between Chinese and Brazilian enterprises.
Wang Hua, head of Xuhui, said the district is working to build itself into a national AI hub, expand high-level opening-up and promote South-South cooperation. He invited Brazilian enterprises to invest in and grow within Xuhui.
Xuhui's GDP reached 415.31 billion yuan ($60.94 billion) in 2025, ranking first among Shanghai's central urban districts for two consecutive years. The district is home to more than 1,700 AI companies and over 100,000 professionals, with the total scale of its core AI industry exceeding 100 billion yuan.
During the roadshow, Xuhui-based StepFun and Jiliu Technology presented their technologies, while representatives from Chinese and Brazilian organizations discussed AI innovation and industrial applications. The event attracted more than 150 guests from China and Brazil.
