Qianlong-era treasures exhibition opens at Fengxian Museum in Shanghai

The exhibition "Splendors in Flowing Light: Special Exhibition of Qianlong Period Artifacts from The Palace Museum Collection" opened at Fengxian Museum on May 18, presenting 121 pieces and sets from the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) imperial collection in Shanghai.

Jointly organized by the Fengxian District People's Government and the Palace Museum, the exhibition is the museum's second collaboration with the palace institution and one of Shanghai's largest Qianlong-themed showcases in recent years, opening on International Museum Day.

The exhibits span gold and silverware, porcelain, jade, textiles, writing instruments, and arms and armor, reflecting the collecting interests and aesthetic system of Emperor Qianlong (1736-1796), one of China's longest-reigning monarchs.

The exhibition features notable items such as imperial seals, ceremonial robes and court objects that were personally associated with Emperor Qianlong. It also includes paired vases and tri-color glassware produced under his supervision and now preserved in The Palace Museum collection.

The exhibition also features paintings, calligraphy and Western clocks from imperial holdings, illustrating cultural exchange between China and the West during the 18th century and offering valuable insight into the artistic life and material culture of the Qing court.

Alongside the display, immersive programs include role-playing experiences of imperial court life, a recreated Sanxitang (Hall of Three Rarities), and workshops on restoration, calligraphy, and traditional decorative crafts for visitors.
