Jinshan school's heritage works debut at Paris book festival

Creative pieces from Shanghai Food Science and Technology School, including Only Green, A Millennium Dream, Blue Lotus Memoirs, and Poem of Kites, were showcased at the Festival du Livre de Paris 2026 at the Grand Palais from April 17 to 19, drawing global attention to China's intangible cultural heritage.

The school's works were part of the themed exhibition "Classics of China — Vocational Education Intangible Heritage Achievements", attracting visitors curious about traditional arts and modern interpretations. These pieces blend rock-pigment enamel methods, classical aesthetics and cultural narratives, making them stand out among international showcases at the festival.

The Festival du Livre de Paris, one of Europe's largest literary and cultural gatherings, brings together hundreds of publishers, authors and readers from around the world under the iconic glass roof of the Grand Palais, offering book signings, talks and exhibitions that celebrate global cultural exchange.

The "Dreams Built on Rocks" project began in 2017 in a campus studio and has since grown into a distinctive program combining traditional techniques with innovation. Students learn to use mineral pigments, filigree and enamel craft to create expressive works that resonate with contemporary aesthetics.

Project lead teacher Gong Tianwei said the aim is to marry "ancient methods with modern spirit," enabling heritage art to reach new audiences. Students involved describe the opportunity to present their work in Paris as a defining moment in their artistic and cultural journey.
