Light and shadow show in Jing'an captivates residents and tourists with dazzling displays

During the May Day holiday, a light and shadow show in Jing'an district, Shanghai, captivated residents and tourists alike, illuminating the commercial areas of Nanjing West Road and Suhewan and igniting enthusiasm among citizens and tourists to explore the city's light art.

The event was part of the fourth edition of the "Shining Shanghai, Light up Jing'an" international light and shadow show. A highlight on Nanjing West Road was a coffee cart that drew crowds, while the event-exclusive "Jing'an GO Wristbands" were in high demand and sold out each day.

The century-old Zhang Yuan, hailed as the best garden in Shanghai, was transformed into a "Dreamy Flower Realm" with installations, creating a festive atmosphere. Dancers and mythical flower gods enchanted onlookers, adding to the immersive experience.

According to Dataway, a data analysis firm, the event attracted more than 1.705 million visitors, a 25.84 percent increase from the previous year, with spending reaching 409 million yuan ($60 million), up 10.01 percent.

The event garnered extensive media coverage, with over 100 articles published by outlets such as Xinhua News Agency and People's Daily Online. Collaborations with the Jing'an International Flower Show and the "Jing'an GO" platform, as well as international social media engagement, further amplified its reach.

Some installations will remain until May 10, continuing to light up the city. The Suhewan area will host regular light shows, ensuring the enchantment continues along the Suzhou Creek.
