Shanghai's downtown ecological bird-watching base opens free to public
A unique ecological sanctuary in Shanghai's Yangpu district is attracting birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts. The Xinjiangwan Wetland Ecological Bird-watching and Photography Base, the only original ecological bird-watching site in downtown Shanghai, is now open to the public 24 hours a day free of charge.

The wetland boasts a remarkable array of diversity, being home to 36 bird species, which make up over 88 percent of Shanghai's summer bird population. Visitors can spot egrets gliding over the water, vinous-throated parrotbills flitting through reeds, and pallas's leaf warblers singing from branches.

A wooden boardwalk leads visitors to an observation pavilion, where photographers often set up their equipment to capture the vibrant birdlife. The site offers a peaceful escape where visitors can enjoy riverside breezes and birdsong without leaving the city.
