Russian educators tour SHNU foreign-language middle school

About 40 representatives from Russian educational institutions visited the Foreign Language High School Affiliated to Shanghai Normal University (SHNU) in Songjiang district, Shanghai, on April 7 for a China-Russia science education microforum focused on collaborative innovation.

The delegation toured various facilities, including the AI lab, teachers' office and library, where they observed 3D printing, AI grading and smart borrowing technologies. This provided an opportunity to discuss the transformative impact of technology on teaching and learning inside the school.

Students demonstrated the process from 3D modeling to printed objects. A senior student greeted the visitors in Russian and described how online resources and VK (a popular Russian social media platform) support his eco-themed Russian studies.

Teachers then presented an AI grading system that helps analyze learning results, deliver faster feedback and improve resource sharing. The school says it has been used across multiple subjects since March 2025.

The school was designated as a Shanghai science education model school in 2017, and it reports that 97 percent of its students participate in innovation activities. The school integrates language learning with science through various academies, campus ecology programs and international projects.

The forum also featured Vidnovskaya School No 11 from Moscow region. Founded in 2018, this school consists of 12 buildings and accommodates more than 6,000 students, offering tracks in engineering, science and humanities.

The two sides signed a friendship-school agreement and exchanged student-created science projects. School leaders said the visit would support joint projects, student exchanges and broader cooperation under the Russia-China Years of Education.
