Deng Xiaodong, the district head, emphasized that building an intelligent manufacturing leading zone presents a significant historical opportunity for Baoshan to accelerate its transformation and reshape its development advantages.

The district is committed to strengthening its core capabilities in intelligent manufacturing, fostering innovation, and creating a business-friendly environment, Deng said.

The Shanghai Institute for Atomic-Scale Manufacturing Technology was officially inaugurated to develop and promote key technologies in atomic-scale manufacturing. The institute aims to advance research and application in critical technologies and core components for high-end manufacturing industries such as integrated circuits and aerospace.

During the promotional session, the district highlighted its key industrial chains in advanced new materials, as well as robotics and high-end equipment, each valued at over 100 billion yuan ($14.5 billion). The district also unveiled resources in intelligent manufacturing across four dimensions: application scenarios, demonstration benchmarks, financial empowerment and digital infrastructure.

Currently, Baoshan hosts over 300 intelligent manufacturing enterprises above designated size, contributing significantly to the district's economic growth. In 2025, the industrial value surpassed 100 billion yuan for the first time. Notably, industrial robotics output alone reached nearly 8 billion yuan, accounting for one-third of the city's total output in this sector.
