Wusong's transformation from historic port to modern innovation hub
Shanghai's Wusong area, situated at the confluence of the Huangpu River, the Yangtze River and the Wenzaobang River, is undergoing a comprehensive transformation that seeks to harmonize its time-honored industrial heritage with future-oriented urban development.
The area's rich industrial legacy is being revitalized to drive innovation. A key project in this transformation is the Peninsula 1919 Cultural and Creative Industry Park, where historic factory buildings are being repurposed as a landmark for modern creativity. Wusong is also deepening strategic partnerships with leading state-owned enterprises, including China Baowu Steel Group, to build advanced R&D bases and cultivate emerging sectors in AI-powered energy storage and green technology.

Urban renewal and ecological governance are proceeding in tandem. The second phase of the Neighborhood 14 old community renovation has been largely completed, while extensive upgrades to rainwater and sewage systems and green spaces such as Xijiabang have enhanced the area's livability.

Governance is evolving to be smarter and more focused on the community. The sub-district has implemented a multi-grid consolidation management system, achieving a 100 percent case resolution rate. Services for both the elderly and youth have been strengthened, with the establishment of new elderly care stations in neighborhoods and school social workstations, all aimed at fostering a warm and inclusive community.

Wusong aims to establish itself as a high-quality demonstration zone for industrial development that is well-integrated with urban construction, while fostering a green and ecological environment. Planned initiatives include the launch of the Peninsula 1919 East Zone tech park, the completion of Baowu R&D bases, and the development of an industrial belt along Tongji and Yixian roads focused on the industrial internet and smart technologies. The construction of new senior care stations and the cultivation of more community self-governance brands are also part of the agenda.
