Shanghai's Chongming district celebrates Lantern Festival with vibrant folk art show

On the evening of March 3, marking China's Lantern Festival, the pedestrian street of Bayi Road in Chengqiao town, Chongming district, Shanghai, transformed into a lively celebration for the traditional festival.

A folk art exhibition captivated both locals and tourists with traditional street performances and a lively intangible cultural heritage market, providing an authentic experience of Chongming's festive spirit.

At 6:30 pm, the lively beat of drums signaled the beginning of the folk street parade. A parade of over 150 performers set off from Beimen Road, parading south along Bayi Road, presenting a dynamic presentation of folk culture. The dragon and lion dance teams received enthusiastic cheers from the crowd, while the performances unique to Chongming, such as "Peony Pavilion" and "Intangible Cultural Heritage Horse Racing," brought back warm memories for many residents.

The event was enjoyed by attendees, who were in high spirits. The street's interactive zones were just as popular, with the "Smart Lantern Riddle Gallery" and the "Lantern Festival Folk Market" drawing crowds excited to explore local crafts and traditions.

The event highlighted traditional lantern customs through a wide range of activities, including village performances, folk parades, outdoor shows, and interactive stalls. This cultural event, lasting from afternoon into the evening, enriched the community's cultural life and revitalized traditional festivities with a modern touch.
