A rare black-throated diver has been spotted at Jinhai Lake in Shanghai's Fengxian district, drawing the attention of local birdwatchers. This waterfowl, about 60 centimeters long, is distinguished by its black-and-white plumage and graceful diving. The bird is typically found in Arctic regions and is rarely seen in urban freshwater lakes.

The diver's appearance in Fengxian is a rare event. Its presence has sparked buzz among bird enthusiasts. Huang Wenhua, a member of the ecology group of the Fengxian photography association, shared her excitement: "It was in excellent condition, moving playfully around the lake. We were lucky to get such close-up views." Photographers and nature lovers have gathered to capture the rare sight.
For many, this sighting has sparked a deeper interest in birdwatching. Xiao Shi, a university student, said, "It's incredible to see an ocean bird in a city park. It's a unique experience."

Experts note that the black-throated diver is highly sensitive to water quality, relying on clean lakes and a healthy ecosystem. Its presence signals improving environmental conditions in Fengxian.
